The trial had to do with possession of "dangerous drugs" (aka meth). Several prospective jurors said during voir dire that they were in favor of the legalization of marijuana, and neither the attorneys nor the judge kicked these people to the curb. That's saying something in a state like Arizona, where, I kid you not, someone I know was recently arrested for felony possession of an Altoids tin suspected of being used to contain some weed. They felony people all the time here so they can plead them down to misdemeanors, obtain convictions, and collect fines, but nonetheless I smell the winds of change? Or maybe I just smell weed.
