calling the election for obama

by jackie sheeler on November 1, 2008

columnists, pundits and bloggers are crawling out of the woodwork to call the election for obama. i haven’t found anybody willing to call it for mccain. maybe because i don’t subscribe to the wingnut blogs, but i don’t really believe that, since even peggy noonan, slavish GOP standard bearer that she is, waxes effusive in praise of barack. other high-level republican endorsements of the democratic ticket continue pouring in, and voters seem to have figured out that rashid khalidi is NOT a PLO spokesperson. naturally, mccain has only his running mate — who was apparently forced upon him entirely against his will, perhaps by a team of heavily-armed space aliens — to blame for this. guess he won’t be bothering to school her about what the first amendment actually means.

speaking of schooling, look who doesn’t have to bus a bunch of third-graders to his rallies just to fill up all the empty spaces:

indiana

in case you missed it, here’s video and a transcript of his chat with rachel maddow.

i didn’t realize until just now how lucky i am to be escaping from new york this weekend, as it is once again time for the city to cripple itself with runners. call me scrooge, but i simply don’t see manhattan as a good place to worship the strange gods of jogging. (nor for parades nor street festivals neither.)

meanwhile, on the west coast (where they do not, as far as i know, render their largest cities unlivable by annually handing them over to a sweaty gaggle of spandex-suited runners) bubba is robocalling against proposition eight. thank you, mr. clinton! and thank you, state of pennsylvania, for shooting down yet another GOP voter suppression lawsuit. pennsylvania, by the way, is by all accounts mccain’s only hope, and he’s not doing well there not doing well there at ALL.

the blog herald has put together a very useful roundup of online election-day resources (though my personal favorite, daily kos, astonishingly did not make the cut).

and now i’m off to pennsylvania. obama probably doesn’t need any more help in that state, where he’s leading by double-digits. but this is history, man, and i want to be part of it.

landslide. say it.

landslide. say it.

Jackie, thanks for suggesting The Daily Kos! I’ve added it to the post at The Blog Herald. It’s a great resource and I shouldn’t have tried so hard to limit the list to the best 10 resources. It’s gotta be in there. We’re up to 19 fantastic links right now and I’d love to hear any more from your or your readers.

Best wishes!
