I agree wholeheartedly on this issue. I know someone who was tasered at a rally earlier this year, because of misconduct. Luckily!!! my other friend was filming the ENTIRE thing, and they were able to prove in court without any doubt that the officer was in the wrong, and had tasered my friend mistakenly. The smug lil prick didnt even have the decency to apologize! He was suspended and my friend sued for damages, award still pending. I agree that they should be denied the ability to apply for a firearm if they are ever found to mis-use their tasers. They are not properly regulated, and they definitely should be. This is a sensible idea.
It belongs in the category of “shit I’d never imagine because there’s no way in Hell it’ll ever be implemented”.

michael, you are entirely right that they are NOT only used as an alternative to shooting.

but when tasers were first issued to the police, they were positioned as exactly that: an alternative to shooting. and i believe if they were used only in that way, they’d be used far less — and cause fewer unwarranted casualties.

I think you misunderstand why tasers are used.

Your assertion that they’re only used as an alternative to shooting is false, and your entire argument falls apart from there.
