war & (inner) peace

by jackie sheeler on January 6, 2009

i started to write about gaza this morning, after reading up on how israel is now using cluster bombs there, and how cluster bombs are NEVER used anywhere near residential areas because of the toxic residue they leave, which takes years to fully dissipate and which poisons people slowly. so, seems like whichever way this war turns out in the short-term, israel has already won it in the long term — the palestinians who remain on that land will simply die off. what a cunning strategy. meanwhile, gaza is calling for aid in the form of food, medicine, and body bags (watch the video if you dare). kids are being killed and maimed and there’s no room at any of the hospitals. hundreds of civilians are dead and the bombings continue. the average age in gaza is 17. you know how many small children have to live in that area for the average to be that low? oh, and just by the way, about 70% of them have no access to water.

well, so, that kind of information will make my fucking head explode, and i am not prepared for a headsplosion this morning, so i stopped the war research and instead turned to a new creativity course that i’ve just started taking over at stefanie lipsey’s writingyoga blog. i just downloaded the ebook and did the first exercise, and already my head is back in one smooth piece and i am renewed and raring to work on some half-finished poems the minute i finish this blog. thank you, stefanie.

i encourage all of you to visit writingyoga and try out this course if you’d like to start the year off with a creativity boost. i’ve known stefanie for years (she’s a ny-area poet extraordinare and a very spirit-centered, ethical human being — just my kind of people!).

I guess I have been a fan of yours long enough to have the original blog address on my blog. Sorry, now it is properly set!

Thank you for beginning the day with the Sound Cliff Creativity course. I hope you wrote many poems today. And thank you for posting the writingyoga link on your blog!

Now lets hope our inner peace transcends & translates – “be the change…”
