if a person is practically certifiable, and fox news pays this person millions of dollars a year to spew hate-talk, and there’s nothing to be done about it because, after all, we have free speech, then obviously the problem is the lack of even basic common sense among the so-called decision-makers at fox.
there’s no other explanation. perhaps they are as insane as bill o’reilly. who belongs in jail as surely as sean hannity’s old pal, hal turner, who was just locked up this morning.
is o’reilly, with the clear line between his “tiller-the-killer” incitement of right-wing lunatics next? unlikely. if he didn’t get indicted for sending his minions to stalk blogger amanda terkel, he’s not going to get arrested as an accomplice in the murder of dr. tiller. the man who killed two people in a tennessee church last year was another o’reilly aficionado.
keith olbermann called it months ago, back in march when the terkel story hit and it became obvious that o’reilly had lost what little contact with reality he had:
students have been thrown out of their schools for very small-time hate talk. why the fuck is it OK when republicans, from limbaugh to hannity to o’reilly, do it? when the hate-filled so-called “pro-life” movement propogates hate andopenly trains new recruits in luring victims to intimidate and threaten, it’s all good because they do it in the name of jesus?
oh, i forgot. it’s all a left-wing conspiracy to muddy the good name of god-fearing conservatives. though i have yet to see any liberals calling for the head of o’reilly (who out of sheer self-interest and perhaps a bit of fear opposed the passage of the recent hate-crimes bill) or sending a pair of muscleheads to stalk the asshole while he’s on vacation. we would just like him to stop calling for the death of people who disagree with him. is that too much to ask?
dr. tiller would’ve appreciated such restraint.

I think it is dangerous to dismiss O’Rielly, Hannity, Fox & Friends, etc. as insane lunatics with no common sense. Just as Bin Laden is no raving lunatic, neither are these folks. They have their own agenda and they use propaganda to that end. Violence, as long as it is not against them, is just another acceptable form of expression. Propaganda is a way of life.
Greg is right. Just because I like MSNBC better, does not mean that the propaganda wars are not in place.
